Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS)

<<< Back

Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) is a short-term behavioral intervention for children who are receiving mental health services, but are at risk for placement disruption due to unmanageable behaviors. It is a short term, intensive service aimed at maintaining long term success.

TBS workers meet with clients in the home, school, and/or community using interventions based on the client’s abilities, interests, and strengths to address and manage behaviors. TBS coaches teach skills and replacement behaviors to develop alternative behaviors that are more adaptive and appropriate, such as developing communication skills, identifying triggers, and self soothing skills. TBS workers also meet with caregivers to transfer skills to sustain progress and help maintain the client’s long term success. Interventions could include creating structure, rewards and consequence systems, and identifying preventive measures. TBS workers collaborate with caregivers and other treatment team members, such as social workers, therapists, and teachers, to help ensure the best outcome for the client and family.
