The state of Hawaii reports the number of foster kids is at a 15 year low. But for the 17-hundred children currently in foster care - and the scores more who will age out of the system - a new program is trying to connect them with their biological families. The Honolulu-based Epic Ohana began its Family Finding Program a year ago. In HPR's ongoing look at the Hawaii foster care system Ben Markus talked to a few of the foster kids who've reconnected with lost family members.

Family Finding was featured by 60 Minutes in December 2006. Lesley Stahl reported on reuniting foster foster children with their biological families. "They are said to be the loneliest children in the world: unadopted foster children who assume their families have forgotten them. A new program called "Family Finding" tracks down these kids' relatives, giving the children a sense of belonging. For 13-year-old Samara, it's meant a reunion with her mother and the siblings she never met. Beverly, age 14, has been reunited with an uncle who now visits her weekly."
