Training for Seneca Center’s Employees

Seneca Center believes that in order for youth and families to receive the best care and treatment possible, staff must receive on-going training on current and proven practices and professional development topics. We provide a learning lab for staff as well as graduate and post-graduate level interns/trainees. Building upon education and life experiences, Seneca Center provides on-the-job experiential learning and on-going formal training.

Every employee’s developmental path begins with a comprehensive two-week orientation, Basic Training, which provides an overview of the agency’s mission, values, intervention philosophy and methods. Once working in their program, new employees experience mentor training which allows them to learn from experienced staff members by observing and practicing in the field.

In program, all staff members attend regular in-service trainings designed to enhance their therapeutic intervention skills and work effectively with youth and families. Additional training opportunities allow staff to broaden their knowledge base or hone specialty skills.

Our comprehensive clinical training supports clinicians in receiving and maintaining their licenses by providing training and supervision to meet pre and post licensure requirements as well as improving their practice. Through participation in the training program, clinicians develop expertise with children and families using Seneca’s unique relationship-behavioral approach. Regular Clinical Case Conferences provide a forum for therapists to discuss issues regarding case management and liaison work with public agencies. Advanced Clinical Training offers opportunities for therapists to hear presentations and participate in workshops covering a wide variety of topics in clinical practice. Seneca Center also utilizes field experts to provide required licensure and renewal courses as well as licensure test preparation courses. There are additional opportunities offered for developing specialized skills, including clinical supervision and evidence-based practices. In order to ensure each individual clinician’s needs are met, Seneca Center provides a professional development stipend of $500/year for clinicians to participate in professional conferences and other training experiences outside the agency.  Please download a brochure or flyer with information about our clinical training program and pathway to licensure.

For staff who are interested in moving into managerial roles, Seneca also provides management training. The Introductory Management Training provides new and prospective managers with a didactic and hands-on training program designed to support them in transitioning to management positions. The program focuses on skills related to staff supervision, training and development. Advanced Management Training allows managers to hone supervisory and leadership skills, unify practices and procedures across programs, and earn GHA CEUs.

Staff are also encouraged to build upon their strengths and interests by attending training presented by experts in the field and CPR classes offered to the larger provider community.
